Awareness. Understanding. Meditation (AUM)
“The AUM is an energy experiment to bring up your negative and positive, to help all sorts of energies to surface. For the first time you can face yourself as an energy system. The first thing is to face all your problems, naked. It is almost hell because the whole basement has to be opened and all the nightmares brought to your consciousness, but it is a great discipline.” - Osho
AUM consists of 12 stages.
Stage 1: “I hate.” We start out with tight fists, as we face one another admitting that the hate is within us and has nothing to do with anyone else.
Stage 2: “I love.” Now we look into each others eyes softly and allow ourselves the rare chance to feel the unattached love we have for everyone. “When you really become alive, everything becomes alive: love, hate, anger, sadness -- everything, because they are all your facets”.
Stage 3: "Running" in place, with our arms up making sounds and increasing our speed as in a competition. “Drop the control and then suddenly the energy will have an upsurge, a breakthrough. It will penetrate like a sharp knife, and may even be painful, but then everything becomes so beautiful”.
Stage 4: "Kundalini." Shaking, allowing the kundalini energy to rise softly, starting from the feet to the crown chakra. “When I say shake, I mean your solidity, your rocklike being should shake to the very foundation, so it becomes liquid, fluid, melts, flows.”
Stage 5: "Cuckoo’s nest." Here we have the rare chance to express the forbidden. "People have been trying to choose that only good things should be alive, and so called bad things should be forced to die. In this absurd effort everything has died."
Stage 6: "Celebration". We give our body the full freedom to take the dance to ecstatic heights. “Live a life of an open hand. The whole sky is available, don't settle for less. Never settle for less”.
Stage 7: “Crying.” Crying with sad music to help us shed the tears that have been sitting deep in our hearts. “Never be ashamed of your tears. Be proud that you are still natural. Be proud that you can express the inexpressible through your tears”.
Stage 8: “Laughing”. Here we can prod each other into laughter. Maybe we can reach a good belly laugh. “A man who knows sadness, if he laughs, his laughter will have depth. His laughter will have something of his sadness too, his laughter will be more colorful.”
Stage 9: "Dance of Lovers." Here we can dance alone allowing the sensuality of our body. Or, we can dance with someone, exploring the freedom of dancing with another.
Stage 10: "Center of the Universe." Holding hands in a circle with a candle in the middle chanting AUM. “OM is the sound when everything else disappears from your being -- no thought, no dream, no projections, no expectations, not even a single ripple -- your whole lake of consciousness is simply silent”
Stage 11: "Listen." Sitting silently, we listen to a brief audio excerpt of Osho speaking.
Stage 12: "Namaste and Hugs": Walking around the room, once again facing each other we NAMASTE with folded hands and hug. It means I recognize the Buddha in you.
